Off-Duty DC Cop Critically Injured By Driver In Maryland Parking Lot (Developing)

An off-duty Metropolitan Police officer was critically injured after being struck by a car in a Maryland parking lot, officials said.

At approximately 10:40 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, a driver struck the officer in the 10500 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Highway in Bowie, according to a spokesperson from the Prince George’s County Police Department.

The incident happened in the parking lot near the Shoppers grocery store.

According to police investigators, the officer suffered critical injuries and has been transported to UM Capital Region Medical Center in Largo.

His condition was not immediately available at 12:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Officers said that they were able to stop the driver believed to be involved, though the incident remains under investigation.

Investigators did not release the name of the off-duty DC officer who was struck.
